General Sunith Francis Rodrigues, an Indian army officer and the Chief of the Indian Army from 1990 to 1993, passed away at the age of 88 on March 4, 2022.
The former Indian Army Chief General Sunith Francis Rodrigues passed ways on Friday, March 4, at 88. Gen Sunith was appointed as the Governor of Punjab and Administration of the Union Territory of Chandigarh on November 8, 2004.
Gen Rodrigues served as a Governor of Punjab from 2004 to 2010. He was born in 1933 in Bombay and was enrolled at St. Xavier’s High School, Fort in Bombay.

General Sunith Francis Rodrigues died at the age of 88 on March 4. The actual cause of his death and further information related to his death is yet to be revealed by the sources.
However, it is believed that the General had passed away following a natural death. There were no details of him diagnosed with any illness or disease to date.
General Rodrigues is believed to have passed away due to old age. His family has not revealed any details regarding his death cause till now, due to which his actual cause of death remains unclear, and concluding his death as natural maybe somehow ambiguous.

General Sunith Francis Rodrigues lived with his wife Jean Rodrigues in Porvorim. General and his wife Jean have been married for over 60 years. Sunith always expressed love for his wife and claimed it was love on the first flight.
While Gen Sunith was the captain in the Indian Army, Jean was flying for BOAC and was the first Indian air hostess with the airlines. Jean was a British passport holder.
As rules disallowed such marriage, General Sunith sought permission, and for one full year, the authorities kept him dangling. But as we know, love always finds its way, General resigned, and the authorities were blinked.
General and his wife have three children together, namely Neale, Susan, and Mark. Their eldest son Neale served in the Merchant Navy and is settled in the UK. Their daughter Susan has been associated with British Army for the last 27 years and is based in Delhi.
Mark is their youngest son who got his MBA from Canada, Ph.D. from Vaikata University, New Zealand and settled there. All of their three children are married, and according to some sources, they have six grandchildren who visit them in Goa.

General Sunith Francis Rodrigues Joined the Joint Services Wing of the Indian Military Academy in 1949 while he was sixteen years old. On December 28, 1952, he was then commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery.
He was enrolled at the Defence Services Staff College and took over as GSO II operations in XXXIII Corps HQ in 1971. After the war with Pakistan in 1972, General was awarded the VSM for distinguished service.
General Rodrigues was promoted to the Major General and then took over the commence of a division operating in a high altitude area. Sunith was then awarded a master’s degree in Defence Studies.
Following his retirement on June 30, 1993, after nearly 41 years of serving in the Indian Army, he was Director of the International Centre, Goa, for almost six years.
General Rodrigues was the 26th Governor of Punjab and the 13th Administrator of Chandigarh.
