Liberian musicians are striving and working hard to earn International recognition and the pressure from local fans keeps looming. However, there some top artists who have had the attention and spotlight on the continent but somehow missed the opportunity to be International artists.
Deng has been an outstanding artiste and a legend in the country for sometime despite not be fully active for the past few years. Deng had a chance to perform his art along with several of the continent finest artists at the One Africa Music Fest. This followed the success of his songs and music video which gained positive reception in Liberia and Africa at large. He later featured Kcee on his “Make Dem Talk” song and Sarkodie on “JanJay”, but failed to raise the bar high and gain moment later on.
Hipco artiste Christoph The Change also had the chance to blow as an international mainstream artiste. He gained much of popularity and attention in Liberia and outside. Since he presented himself as an artiste from Liberia and reached the point of spitting many bars, many Liberians were waiting for what they could offer as an artiste to the world. Christoph even share a video on social media recording in studio with Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy, but surprisingly, the song is still in studio.
While some may argue that he is already International, Kobazzie’s fan base can explain he is still a local Liberian artiste. The Afropop single “Bounce” which brought him to limelight had numerous views on the Internet. And he also did a collaboration for the hit single with Nigerian singer Davido, and was seen with numerous of Nigeria’s finest musicians including Phyno, Dj Ecool, Dremo among others. However, he decided to go mute for sometime after that successful release which got played on International stations. His lack of consistency is costing him.
