In an exclusive interview, Samphemia shares her journey as a model, and also offers advice to young female models.

How did you first discover you had a passion for modeling, and why do you have this passion?

When I was 14 years old, I used to admire girls practice for beauty contest, and I started attending their practice session every time they were practicing. I started practicing as well, even though I didn’t know what really it was, I was interested in at the time. In 2016, I started getting glued to watching fashion shows on DSTV, and I would do all my chores and run to the TV to always watch. And as time went by, I started creating strong passion for modelling and wanted to give it a try.

What has been your best model experience so far?

My best model experience was in 2017 when I walked on a fashion show for J Bull Modelling Agency.

What about your favourite photo-shoot and what made it different from other you’ve had?

My favorite photoshoot was the one I did with the yellow paint on in Ghana. Oh my God I planned for that shoot so much.

It was different from the other shoots because it was well planned, well created and well prayed about. I look at all Liberian models and saw that none of them have ever done something like that, so I went for it, to take Liberia fashion to another level.

What advice can you give young models that would like to enter the industry?

To the younger one out there, do not be afraid to go for what you want, once you have created it in yourself, you should stand for it. Not everyone will like your decision or support you because they believe that you not capable of doing it. But you can always start by encouraging and supporting yourself and making sacrifices.

Please share a few of your successes with us?

I was featured in two magazines lately last year, one is already out by Edmond owner of Edana Photography. The other one is yet to be released. And I have also been featured in couples of music videos with big artistes like DenG, CIC and Bucky Raw. I did a commercial video for Hunter Beer with PCK & L’ Frankie. Did a commercial for Bel-la Water in Ghana, and now I won one of the faces of Lonestar Cell MTN Liberia.

What’s your favourite quote of all time?

When nobody celebrates you, learn to celebrate yourself, by Jay Shetty

What are your plans for the future as a model?

Well, I want to be featured in more magazines and on billboards. My other plan right now is to go on higher stage with my designs, I am a fashion designer too.
