A former Carlisle football forward, Steve Finney is no longer with us. Tributes follow on social media as the footballer passed away at the age of 48. 

The striker was best known for his time in The Football League where he represented six different clubs throughout his career. He is a Swindon Town legend who was a pivotal figure for their promotion to the second division in the 95/96 season.

Steve Finney has died at the age of 48.

As for his death cause, the footballer was known to have a short illness. However, we are not able to know about his illness for the time being. Reports say that he was suffering for the past few months. 

After having concluded his playing career in 2002, Finney couldn’t let go of his love for the game. He joined the management team of several English clubs. He was a member of a local team known as Ullswater United at the time of his death.  

#STFC are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Steve Finney.

Steve joined the Reds in 1995 and scored 22 goals in over 50 outings for the club, including 16 goals in 1995/96 as Town stormed to the Second Division Title.

The forward made 73 league appearances for Swindon Town and scored 18 goals for the team. Besides, he was also a part of the Manchester City squad but was unable to make any appearance for the Blues. 

Moreover, the striker finished his career with the Altrincham Football Club.
